Sith Wedding

   Posted by: amrath

As I said, we made the news with our ceremony, and here is the piece. Thanks go out to all involved, with special thanks to Joe Martinez, who nearly died of a heat stroke in the Vader costume; my brother Dan, for helping pull it all together; Eric Decker, who threw out his back taking pics (which I hope to see soon!); Leonard Zahare and my nephew Devan Harrison for their spirited Jedi interloper roles; and reporter Sam Griswold at CBS 42 who filmed this and send us the edited piece.

And to Jess, of course, for being there.

Clutter, Coke, and New Characters

   Posted by: amrath

Well, I have returned from my vacation/wedding/honeymoon/scifi convention, and I am doing my best to pick up all of the threads I left on the ground before I left. The house still needs much work to be settled, and I feel it all the more because I’ve been living out of a suitcase for weeks. We still have boxes of ‘stuff’ everywhere. It’s hard to find the simplest of things because so much still needs to be unpacked and put in its place. It’s basically on top of my agenda to get things sorted out by the weekend so I can actually relax a bit. It’s just too hard when I am surrounded by work I know must be done.

At least I can now check off ‘buy house’ and ‘get married’ from my to-do list. However, it has come to my attention of late that a new item, ‘have kid’, has been scheduled for about nine months in the future. It would seem our ceremony aligned well with the vibrations of The Force.

So, this penny dreadful novel I call life will have a new character, hopefully a great hero, or at least a great villain, and not some drab, mediocre, unnamed stable hand or bar maid who never ventures more than a few miles from home. Names are important and symbolic, so let this new character be well named. For that, we must think long and long.

Fortunately, we have some months, due to simple mechanics.

Hmm. I think this could be a telling moment. Vader must be working some sorcery here with his gestures. (I had no idea he would be a Coke fan.)

Vader working some kind of sorcery.

Brief Report From the Road

   Posted by: amrath

I’m on vacation, so I am disinclined to write overmuch, but this needs to be posted. Looks like we made the news.

Apparently, there is also video that was broadcast on the news, but it’s not up on the site yet. If I can lay hands on it, I’ll be sure to link it.

Collision and Aftermath

   Posted by: amrath

Well, I can’t say I have gotten much writing done of late, but I have been quite busy. I closed on the new house last week, and Jess and I have been busting our asses moving and organizing, as well as finding workarounds for several problems with appliances. The microwave, dishwasher, water heater, and garage door opener are all broken to one degree or another. I filed claims with the home warranty, so hopefully, these will be fixed and/or replaced shortly. There was another minor fright when we discovered the washer and dryer did not fit in the space provided. On one side, there was the water heater stand, fairly overlarge, and on the other, a saggy, kinda makeshift workbench made of particle board. I solved this problem by knocking the hell out of the workbench and removing the pieces. Now we can do laundry.

There are, as I have always said, few problems which cannot be solved by the suitable application of high explosives.

Currently, the 2 car garage is filled with stuff, much of which needs to be put up on craigslist and sold, or perhaps yard-saled. That doesn’t even count the storage facility we have rented, which is also filled.  Both Jess and I have just craploads of stuff from past lives, doubles and triples of everything: kitchen appliances, dishes, furniture. I even have a huge riding lawnmower that is completely unsuitable. Why do I still have it? Why have I carted it around? I guess, in the end, it was just hard to let go of things, easier to let it molder away in darkness in the garage. But the time has come. You haven’t really moved on until you clean up the mess, have you? In a pinch, I am not above taking a lot of it to the dump, though I suppose goodwill would be better, in that I could get some tax advantages.

So, with luck, in a few days I will at least know where my shoes are, even if I am not quite certain how the fucking courtroom scene should play out given the new plotlines.

And all of that just in time to plan a wedding, a two-car cross country trip, get myself a dark jedi costume, write vows, write a script for the wedding, buy plane tickets for various people, help organize gaming for my brother’s convention, and about a hundred other things. I have so many freaking balls in the air that you can’t even see my arms moving.

And I suppose, in truth, that’s how I like it.

I’ll be back at the writing by August. Until then, I’ll just focus on not  having a stroke. That seems a worthwhile goal.

House Soon

   Posted by: amrath

Well, if all continues to go well (and there’s no reason why it won’t), we should be in the new house on Friday. As you might expect, I’ve gone to great pains to see that cable and internet are installed the very instant I have the keys in my hand. In the meantime, I’ll be thawing out the rest of the meat in the freezer and doing a big bbq so I have less frozen crap to move. Ideally, there will be nothing frozen to move at all.  What this means in simpler terms is steak and salmon like it’s going out of style.

I like the sound of that.

New Beginnings

   Posted by: amrath

As has been pointed out to me both by others and by life itself, It is time to do less contemplation, and more work. This is part of that. Once, I used a journal to keep myself honest about weight loss. I think I shall do the same with writing.
